FELONY OFFENSES
Class Y - Punishable by a prison term of 10 to 40 years, or life. Examples are murder, rape, and arson.
Class A - Punishable by a prison term of 6 to 30 years, plus a fine of up to $15,000. Examples are aggravated robbery and human trafficking.
Class B Felonies - Punishable by a prison term of 5 to 20 years, plus a fine of up to $15,000. Examples are residential burglary, battery, and drug possession.
Class C Felonies - Punishable by a prison term of 3 to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Examples are commercial burglary, theft, and drug possession.
Class D Felonies - Punishable by a prison term of up to 6 years and a fine of up to $10,000. Examples are simple possession of drugs, aggravated assault, and terroristic threatening.
*All punishment ranges may subject to statutory enhancements that could significantly lengthen the possible prison sentence.
MISDEMEANOR OFFENSES
A Class A misdemeanor offense may result in a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of $2,500. A Class B misdemeanor offense may result in a maximum sentence of 90 days and a fine of $1,000. A Class C misdemeanor offense may result in a maximum sentence of 30 days and a fine of $500.
